do you not get the point of the difference in GW and WoW or are you just playing devils advocate because you have nothing better to do than to sit at your computer and make snide comments at people?

yes, WoW has more players, and good for them. theyre game appeals to more people, but not everyone wants that same style. just because they have more players doesnt mean that the game is better for every person that doesn't play it. thats where Guild Wars comes in. it offers a different playing style, equipment ability, etc. thats why people want Guild Wars to stay the same, and not to be come wow. if you want to become wow, gtfo

Yep. And we're now waiting for Satans evil spawn, Drop Nerf, to appear in the thread, followed by confused wailing about wholly unfair bans of totally innocent people for absolutely no reason whatsoever, srsly.
If we're really lucky we may even see an appearance of the new star players, Ursan Blessing and Dishonor Hex, in this thread!

I played Lineage for years, Dep server, got a level 50 elf and level 50 royal, level 49 dark elf and nooby pk mage. Did it all without cheating, then gave up because cheating and hacking are so common place now that everyone couldn't believe I didnt cheat (what, not even a light hack? Surely you use a sprite hack or auto-escape? zzz) Lineage 1 in the US is abandonware.

That is very true, that's where much money gets left behind. Fortunately, I stick around to pick up the drops.

alot of people that have stacks of ectos took advantage of when the Ectos crash and alot of the ones did this didn't get the rollback so they got to keep all the ectos they brought for 100g ea, and same with the Arms Dup some didnt get found out they had shit load of Arms they didnt tell anyone about theirs. So they get to keep those Arms. Things like this can make you millions easy with no problems, but it all luck and dont tell anyone when these events happen.

My money? Originally came from MMing Sorrow's Furnace for b/p groups, solo troll and minos. When the AI was nerfed, I moved to Dragon Mosses. I farmed ToPK 1-4 times daily and made half of my cash for my necro's FoW armor from there, along with FoW and UW runs.

Then I moved to DoA 3-man farms. Now, I do full DOA runs whenever I have 2-3 hours free from RL stuff, I solo farm UW and Halcyon Job when I'm bored of it, CoF with guildies...

All it takes to make cash is time, a goal and dedication.

Back to original topic, Where did all the gold in the game come from? When your born you have no money over the period of your life you find, work or cheat other people for money. Same way with the game. As to this being your second thread today and seeing a few posts of duping now and you being in the cause of them, leads to believe this is just another stupid thread for someone who's looking for attention. Its funny you know of duping, you had the time and memory to make a thread of it cuz you knew it was a sensitive topic and an exploit of the game if it indeed is true, but you didnt have the common sense to screenshot, report, or check trade partners. Top it off any dupers that are more then likely still in the game would be 10 times smarter then that to just be bragging about it. So my breakdown on 2 threads is just a lamer looking for attention. Pls Close =D

gold didnt come from duping...duping ambraces was a fairly new issue, while people having tons of gold is an old one.
i remember when i started playing GW, week after it came out, i hear people people bragging having stacks of ectos... if you would look in the "post your awesome weapons part 1" you would see that very early in the game, people already had stacks...how? idk, it still baffles me till today...

I used to take all the mountain troll tusks from my 55 runs up there, and run down to the collector and turn them all into swords worth 125 gold each, then re sell to the merchant, soon mounts up.

It depends also if you fall victim to the goldsinks in the games , ie lockpicks, personally i sell all lockpicks i drop, almost guaranteed 1250 gold per
pick.
I dont consider myself super rich by any standards , but i am well off enough to not want for anything in game,
But i got all mine the hard way lol, farming and trading,

It's funny how quickly people forget (or new players come along who never experienced it) about the popularity of the 55 Monk, since loot scaling and skill balancing came into effect.

Sure, you can still run a 55, but there was a huge chunk of time in GW history that the 55 was the be all and end all of mountainous money making.

It was also the bane of our existence, with droves of 55 farming bots crowding the desert.

Viva La 55, La 55 est mort? Nah, Viva La Adaptation.

After 2+ years of playing, it's still a major task to get up the money for ONE PIECE of 15k armor...so far I have 1 1/2 sets, using six character slots (three for tyria, three for elona).

Then again, I've never been to FoW, UW, or DoA...just recently ascended ONE character with whom I've been able to finish all the South Shiverpeaks missions.

I have TWO max weapons, neither of which are greens. The only greens I've gotten are the crappy one from Plains of Jarin, and Khepkhet's Refuge.

The only place I've been able to consistently solo farm is Anvil Rock, which while stable, only yields maybe 1.5k per run.

Basically, I'm as confused as the OP on the massive amounts of GP floating around, though I understand that I haven't reached most of the places that the money has been farmed from.

Trading USED to generate a massive amount of money back before loot scaling and the introduction of inscriptions ~ It generated EVEN MORE before the sorrows furnace update and the introduction of GREEN weapons into the game.

It used to be common practice prior to being able to move from US to Euro to Asian servers; for the really 'proffesional' traders among us (those who took it seriously I mean) to have multiple accounts in different regions. I used to make hundreds of platinum in a week just buying mods in europe moving them to a US based account and selling them stateside. This was ofc when sundering 10/10 sold for upwards of 100k...(LOL) Americans were just willing to pay more for some reason.

Prior to loot scaling a character could amass a large amount of money very quickly just by farming the same area over and over again. Back in the days of just Prophecies there wasn't as much to do tbh ~ no title grinds no Hard Mode ~ If you were going to play the game you had to do something right?

Trader reset ~ There have been two of them to my knowledge ~ I have been around for both, first one wasn't rolled back , second one was . A fair few people got rich off of the first one~ FAR too many people utilised the second for the economy to remain viable so they rolled it back.

The simple truth of it is that now, outside of the whole duping fiasco, you will find it incredably difficult to make any significant money in a short period of time. Trading is a LOT more dificult to make a living out of now as people (A) Have a lot more to spend their money on ~ for example titles, (B) Probably have pretty much everything they want/need now anyway (C) less money, and less viable means of generating money and finally (D) There are so damn many people doing it now

Inscriptions are a fantastic addition to the game ~ I am 'Pro' inscriptions, but their introduction to the game has meant that every req 8 (very rare) or 9 that drops inscribable is to all intents and purposes, perfect ~ and this severely hampers the average players earning potential. It used to be that one 'perfect' drop could set you up for life. I remember selling a req 8 15^50 shadowblade I got chestrunning in FoW for a little over a million gold ~ way back when...

Overall if you arent rich now ~ you are going to have a hell of a time getting rich brothers and sisters. Unless you win a mini roller beetle at the canthan festival or get a req 9 eternal blade drop from the Z chest

Just keep plugging away at it and utilise the only real cash cows anet have given you ~ the free treasure chests should keep your coffers topped up (slightly) if you have a lot of characters
OR you could (if you can stand the boredom of it all) just FFF for the cash as well as the faction. The money is still there you just have to look a little harder for it now (if you can be bothered that is.)

Some people get to play the game 24/7 since the game probably came out, so they can be further ahead in terms of money by a lot. There are ways to make money, they pop up here and there, especially when a new campaign or expansion comes out, there are many things that can get you money. My friend got a green scythe from GWEN the day it came out, and sold it for 100k, although now it's probably worth 5k-10k already. Farming destroyer cores yielded a lot of cash, about 30k-35k in as little as 2 hours, when the game first came out.

One example of how I COULD Have made money but totally gimped myself was buy a req9 Silverwing Bow for 100k the day Eye of the North released. However, being broke isn't fun so I sold it for 100k 8e, so I did make a little money. However I wish I knew how high in demand these things would get, I think they are worth 100k 60e now. So for instance, I could have made 60e with little to no effort. (which would have been especially nice, usually weapons prices go DOWN not way way UP lol).

Unfortunately, there are definately some dupers out there, with stacks of armbraces. You can survive perfectly well in this game with around 300k and kinda get bored because by then you will have at least a couple elite armors anyways and an elite weapon or two for your character. However the reason I still play is for the fun of it, and in gwen the games still exciting with the dungeons.

Money isn't everything in this game, you can still have fun if you have some people to play with, without being rich. It's sorta like real life, you can get rediculously rich by having no life and working your ass off constantly from the beginning, or some people do bad things that other people dislike as crimes to make insane money with no effort but a lot of risk (duping).

Back on topic

I struggled for two years trying to figure out how people had so much money then I looked into the "55" thing. Soon I was out farming minotaur, hydra, stone elementals, and the money started coming in.

It really took off when I got to Doomlore Shrine and a guy I traded with took me on a run through CoF, that was my introduction to 600 / Smite. Been uphill every since. My wives account now has over 500k (use it to smite) and my account has 75k (just bought a bunch of z-keys) Now if someone can tell me where that new shield is going to drop .

This shield

If it is the z chest I am ready.

One of the ANet people even said it: if you make a WoW clone simply because WOW shows the formula is a success, you're putting yourself into direct competition with WOW. At which point one of two things happen: Either you've produced one of those rare games that does manage to unseat the current king, or you'll be just another failed WoW clone.

Guild Wars isn't supposed to be competing with WoW. The original intent was to pick up those people who were unsatisfied with the grindy carrot-on-a-stick behaviour of typical MMORPGs and were looking for something else. The problem is that the lack of a subscription fee has meant that it's also attracted people who were essentially looking for a cheap version of the traditional MMORPG, and in my opinion, ANet has been listening to them more than it should.

My point is: The differences between WoW and GW, with a few exceptions, are good things. With those differences, GW is it's own game. Without those differences, it's just another WoW clone that only avoids the 'failed' tag by being a budget version.

Personally, if I was a game designer, I'd prefer my game to be played for what it was rather than as the substitute for people who can't afford what they really want to play...
